1956 – 1983: Early Life and Education
Johnson Asiedu Nketia was born on December 24, 1956, in Seikwa, Bono Region (formerly Brong Ahafo).
He started his career as a teacher at the Seketia Presbyterian Primary School.
He later pursued studies at the University of Ghana Business School, graduating in 1983 with a degree in Business Administration.
He also undertook postgraduate training in stock brokerage and investment analysis during the formative years of the Ghana Stock Exchange.
In 2019, he obtained a Master of Science in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

1993 – 2005: Parliamentary and Ministerial Service
Johnson Asiedu Nketia entered national politics as a Member of Parliament for the Wenchi West Constituency in 1993 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He served three consecutive terms in Parliament until 2005.
During the Rawlings administration, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture (Crops) from 1997 to 2001, where he played a key role in agricultural policy, rural development, and farmer support programs.
As a legislator, he served on key committees, including Finance, Appointments, and Public Accounts, where his analytical and outspoken nature earned him the nickname “General Mosquito.”

2005 – 2022: General Secretary of the NDC
In 2005, Asiedu Nketia was elected General Secretary of the NDC, a position he held for nearly two decades.
He became one of the most influential voices in Ghanaian politics, leading the party through multiple elections with strategic skill and unwavering dedication.
He was instrumental in reorganizing the party structure, expanding grassroots participation, and strengthening internal democracy.
His leadership was marked by resilience, loyalty, and commitment to the NDC’s social democratic values.

2022 – Present: National Chairman of the NDC
At the 10th National Delegates Congress in December 2022, he was elected National Chairman of the NDC, succeeding Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
Under his chairmanship, the party focused on unity, electoral reforms, and preparation for national governance.
He played a pivotal role in the NDC’s 2024 victory, ensuring strong coordination between the party base and national leadership.

2025: National Appointments and Influence
Following the return of the NDC to power in 2025, he was appointed Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), reflecting his experience and strategic insight.
He continues to be a key figure in national political dialogue, emphasizing transparency, institutional reform, and service to the people.
